Bound-In / Wrap Around Inserts

Bound-In / Wrap Around Inserts

Products that require multiple bound inserts or are combined with a tip-on can only be accepted subject to evaluation.

Designing a Bound-In / Wrap Around Insert

Any part of a bound in insert, which "bleeds" off the trimmed edge, will require a minimum of 5mm bleed allowance.

All bound-in / wrap around inserts must conform to the maximum and minimum sizes shown and must be strictly adhered to.

Bound-In / Wrap Around Inserts - Saddle Stitched

Minimum Size insert is 150mm x 105mm. Conventional saddle stitcher

Minimum Size insert is 150mm x 150mm. High speed drum stitcher.

Concertina folded inserts CANNOT be mechanically bound into any saddle stitched product.

The following ratio of insert stock thickness (gsm) is recommended by Hannanprint NSW and can be used as a guide, however specific inserts can be assessed on an individual basis

Bound-in inserts can bind in the centre of the magazine, in between the sections or wrap around the cover. The insert should be provided with a lap (min 8mm - max 15mm). If a lap is not possible then a closed head or tail (depending upon the magazine layout) should be supplied with the same trim margin as the product that it is being bound into.

Due to the mechanical process and types of inserts, in some cases the final trim size of the product may vary 1-2mm.

Maximum Size the insert must be the same size as the publication it is being bound into.

If the insert is larger than the carrier product - a second pass is required. This type of insert can only bind into the centre or as the cover of the magazine.

The final page size cannot exceed the page size of the publication it is being bound into.

Bound-in inserts that are smaller than the product they are binding into can bind only in between sections.

The insert must have a 3-4mm spine grind allowance and a head / foot trim of 4mm depending on the carrier product. If the width of the insert is less than that of the carrier product - the insert must be supplied trimmed to finished size.

Due to the mechanical process and types of insert, in some cases the final trim size of the product may vary 1-2mm.

Bound-in inserts that have a perforation (so insert can be torn out of the magazine) must have the perforation a minimum of 13mm from the spine. This allows for the spine grind. Particular care must be taken to ensure that the perforation is suitable for Hannanprint NSW's automatic feeding processes. Heavy perforation may cause tearing during the automatic feeding process.

Top heavy or landscape inserts (e.g. Business Reply Card) which are greater in width size (spine to foredge) than length (head to tail) are subject to "twisting" during the binding process and may result in increased spoilage. Hannanprint NSW recommends that these types of inserts be viewed for acceptance. Please contact your Account Manager.
